Wholly Holey

Here’s another fractal that was in the final cut to submit to the fractal contest at the Fractalus site. Now that all of the entries are on display, I can see that the ones I submitted probably don’t have a chance. (If you haven’t already, check it out! The contest site …

Dark Spiral

For the past month, when I haven’t been whipping Fractal Domains 1.3 into shape, I’ve been working on fractal images to submit to the fractal contest at the Fractalus site. Since the submitted images are supposed to be new images that haven’t been previously displayed publicly, I couldn’t use any of …

Birthday Blast

My wife and I both had birthdays this week, plus my daughter turned five months old yesterday, hence the title of this fractal. (Also, I couldn’t think of anything better.) Based on the formula 1/(x^2 + c), c = 0.8 + 0.79i .

Baroque Twins

My wife says this fractal reminds her of earrings. This is from the second collection of fractal desktop pictures that I released a few weeks ago (more collections are to be released shortly).

Frames of Mind

Back to more conventional fractals this week. This is a Julia set using a square orbit trap with a “hole” in it.

Golden Glow

This is a Julia set of some rational function. It uses angular decomposition.

In Your Ear

This reminds me vaguely of those diagrams we all saw in school of the auditory canal. It is a Julia set of a rational functions (probably some version of 1/(x^2 + a) + b. I still can’t save these parameter files, though! (Maybe next week!)

Spiny Newton

…not to be confused with “Spiny Norman” of Monty Python fame. It isn’t hard to tell the difference. Spiny Newton is a fractal and Spiny Norman is a 50 foot high hedgehog.

This is another preview of the next version of Fractal Domains. I still haven’t implemented saving these fractals as a parameter …

Hypnotic Chain

This is another preview of the next version of Fractal Domains. Since I still haven’t implemented saving these fractals as a parameter file (soon, I promise!), I can’t reproduce this. This is a Julia set of some rational function with angular decomposition. Even and odd dwell regions are rendered with separate color maps.
