Rainbow Swirl

This is another preview of the next version of Fractal Domains. Since I still haven’t implemented saving these fractals as a parameter file (soon, I promise!), I can’t reproduce this. (Actually, I think I can remember how I did this one, so you may see a parameter file for it when Fractal Domains …

Crescents

This is another preview of the next version of Fractal Domains. Since I still haven’t implemented saving these fractals as a parameter file, I can’t reproduce this. This is a Julia set with the “stalk” option turned on, but I can’t even remember the nature of the function (I should start writing these …

This is another preview of the next version of Fractal Domains. Since I still haven’t implemented saving these fractals as a parameter file, I can’t reproduce this. It’s some sort of Julia set, almost certainly based on a Newton’s method-like formula. Angular decomposition was chosen as the “dwell method” and an even/odd region …

Filigree

This is another preview of the next version of Fractal Domains. Since I still haven’t implemented saving these fractals as a parameter file, I can’t reproduce this. It is based on a variation of the formula for Newton’s method applied to x^3 = 1.

Attack of the Rainbows

This is another one by my stepdaughter Ronda. (She chose the title, also.) It is a portion of the Mandelbrot Set with the stalk options, and a regions split by dwell value. She had it with “Trap Interior Points” turned off so you could see the Mandelbrot members, and prefers it that way, …

Illuminated Spheres III

This is a part of a Julia set with a circular orbit trap.

Jungle Flower

This is a part of the Mandelbrot set with the “stalks” option turned on. Points with low iteration counts are excluded from the orbit trap test. This removes some large stalks that would have obscured the finer detail.

Twist Circus

This is a Julia set rendered with an orbit trap. The orbit trap is a square, and the trapped points are further subdivided into two regions depending on whether the trapped point is closer to the real or the imaginary axis. In this image, a red and a green gradient are used for …

Stalk Forest

My stepdaughter Ronda has made hundreds of fractals using Fractal Domains. Here is one she did when she was 11. She used the “real stalks” option; I don’t use the option to choose “real” or “imaginary” stalks much myself, but she says it’s one of her favorite techniques.

This is a pure grayscale …
